MEAK - Medical Achievements By the end of 2009, MEAK had completed over 45 medical surgical missions in Kenya within the fields of paediatric cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, ophthalmics and orthopaedics. MEAK is now recognised as a serious contributor in these disciplines, catering for the needs of the disadvantaged majority of the population.MEAK sources and transports many and varied high-tech pieces of equipment for donation to hospitals throughout Kenya. During 2009 we supplied 2 no Image Intensifiers for use in orthopaedic surgery, and 2 no heart and lung pumps with blood heater/cooler units for use during cardiac operations. These items, along with hundreds of thousands of pounds-worth of surgical tools and consumables, are welcome support for the hard pressed local hospitals with whom we co-operate.
MEAK tries to ensure that all goods are donated, transported and
delivered to Kenya totally free of charge so that any donations go
straight to the source
MEAK works towards improving Kenya's health service by working alongside the medical staff in local communities In order to perform the first open heart surgery in Kenya outside the
capital, MEAK donated x2 heart and lung machines to the Aga Khan Hospital
in Mombasa, as well as x1 heart and lung machine to Kenyatta National
Hospital in Nairobi
In the last ten years MEAK has exported some 800 wheelchairs which have been distributed to various hospitals, clinics and needy individuals MEAK expects to donate approximately 100 tons of medical supplies each year for distribution to various hospitals and clinics. Please take some time to browse through the
Heart Missions and
Eye Missions sections for an overview of
